Who is the guru of making carbines run?

I have tried all suggested tricks swapping around everything...PUT one can of brake cleaner on the thing...I bought a GI bolt tool so the bolt will come apart and measure the springs...Also measure the operating rod spring...It is smooth with no binding...

I suspect there is a problem with trigger guard fit. the rear lug and front hole sound loose, since you said there is wobble and you thought the front hole was too large. That sounds like the one constant. You need to have the trigger guard housing tight against the bottom of the receiver. It can be done with with peening of the bottom, back corners of the trigger guard lug )raises rear alignment), and the bottom edge of the front hole of the receiver (raises front alignment). You can also "break the bottom corner" of the feed ramp. Between the two, it should do it if trigger guard looseness is the problem.

DO NOT TRY AND TIGHTEN THE LUG ON THE RECEIVER!!!!! It is hardened and it can snap off very easy and then the receiver is most often done and of no value.

I realize that. I was talking about peening the corners of the TRIGGER GUARD, not the receiver. A staking punch can be used to stake the bottom edge of the hole in the front lug, though

Won't run softpoints....and won't feed ball about 1 time out of 15

It fails to feed...Always on the right side...The soft points deforms and the ball will continue to feed if I bump the operating rod.

Is there any difference in the finish (e.g. "roughness") of the bad gun's feed ramp versus that of the good gun? A toothpick makes a good "feeler" if you can't eyeball it. In order for the soft point to get damaged, it must be hitting or scraping against SOMETHING

If everything is cleaned and lubed,
I would be looking over the feed ramp.
Right side needing a close inspection.

Operating rod return spring is exactly 10"

I took out the hammer and Operating rod return spring and put in 30 rd mag of soft points....Holding the barrel tight, I operated the Operating rod VERY briskly and all rounds fed....I'm going to order a new Operating rod spring(from who?) and take the bolt apart for cleaning and try again with the soft points.....Any more Ideas?
