National Postal M. help for date

Would any one know the date of a National Postal Metor has a I.B.M. barrel no date. ser. # 4221208 no other markings on receiver. Thanks for any info.

I know NPM used sub contract receivers near your serial number, just not sure how close, but in this same serial block.
These were the U marked receivers with the U stamped on the rear bevel below the serial number.
The U stands for Union Switch & Signal.
IIRC these receivers had just the one circular cut on the right side to remove the Op slide.
Of course none of this answers your question...... so I'll get back to you if I can find some date info

P.S. A little late here, I now see that you state no other markings on the receiver.
I have a NPM 4,157,097, with Marlin barrel, pretty sure the build date was Jan-Feb of 1944.
Would guess yours would be near Feb/March of 44.
Not positive, but seem to recall that they were using mostly no date IBM barrels at this time.
To be sure your barrel is original to a NPM, look for the punch mark near your P proof on the barrel. NPM used this punch on all barrels they used.

Here's some extra info about the punch mark that NPM put on the barrels they used.
This link also may help as far as what barrel manufacturer they might have been using at that time.

Here is a pic of the barrel. I also have lots of pics of the carbine on the CMP forum about this carbine . Trying to get some info on it. It has a M3 prototype stock ?? but also has some work done on the stock & receiver . under M1 carbine stock fake or ariginal ???

I had the opportunity to thoroughly inspect NPM # 4230716 that a friend's father brought back from the ETO in Q3 of 1945. It has an undated IBM barrel I believe to be original to the receiver. I would think this carbine dates to Feb/Mar of 1944. HTH

PS: I completed a data sheet for 4230716 and submitted it to the Carbine Club

The IBM barrels were used in the last batches. I have 4259700- IBM barrel

Great thanks for the info . Now I can look for correct parts . Would any one have info on the prototype M3 stock mostly the back parts of the stock & the receiver. Some one said there was some info & pics in the Carbine Club News letter # 61 & 129 . And some info in the Metric Fal book & something about the Dutch converted the carbine for the scope mount . But they could be pullimg my leg on this.

February 1944 for your serial number. The information on a Dutch conversion may be correct.

If it's Dutch it would be nice to get more info $ pics on what thave done to convert. Here are some pics of the back left side of the receiver. I would say to much work done for just a ordenary scope mount. Look at the milling on the top & bottom of the drill & tap holes. Plus the stock.
