I figure this rifle has a lot of history. I think the wood needs some cleaning but I wouldn't want to do anything harmful. Suggestions? The very dark charcoal gray color is very consistent on every visible part and is nearly 100% intact. It looks like it saw relatively little use after being refurbished. It does have a faint WJS stamp. I was pleased with the gun's performance on silhouettes at 250 yards. I have not fired it at targets yet. I live in Cedar Park near Austin Texas. There is a very nice gun range nearby that offers target and silhouette shooting out to 1,000 yards

I don't know. I thought mounted ones all had a sword hanger loop or something. Here is a photo showing most of my belts.

Standard = 10 pockets . Mounted = 9 pockets plus the space ( and snap) for a pistol mag pouch ( or the earlier revolver pouch or the 1917 Colt or S/W 1/2 moon pouch ). Sword hangers can be found on both depending who they were made for ( officers , NCOs , etc. ) .

You are talking about the nine-pocket version of the M1910 belt. I don't have one of those. I have two of the M1903 9-pocket belts and the original 10-pocket M1910 with rimmed eagle snaps in addition to the later WWI and WWII style belts in the photo above.

So, that's just how the early eagle snap belts were?

Yes the pre-1910 belts had nine pockets with the size adjustment in the front. The M1910 and later belts had the size adjustment in the rear thus moving the pockets around more to the front where they are easier to reach.

I'm only talking about those. The back adjustment belts are common as grass.
