LE No. 5 in 7.62 NATO ever in Service?
Was the LE No. 5 ever issued to any military or police personnel in 7.62 x 51 mm NATO anywhere in the world ... or was the Stirling conversion kit just a case of over enthusiasm?

IIRC no-one has so far turned up evidence of Sterling No4s or No5s having been adopted for service anywhere in the world.

I have never seen anything published to indicate that the conversions by Stirling and Enfield were ever sold in quantities to any country or organization. I am sure their paperwork would have listed it as a plus if they had done so.
I have handled a No.5 Long Branch set up in 7.62 Nato by Long Branch when they were doing preliminary studies in developing that carbine option. It has been many years since I saw it and further details elude me.

Thanks for the info. So it most likely won´t be accepted for competition use over here (unless at least a small number could be found that were issued somewhere).

You could try showing them a scan of the Sterling brochure, to prove that the kits were intended for military use.
Actually, you'd be better off using the .303" original version of each rifle anyway....

The 7.62 conversion brochures, and both RSAF and Sterling were good illustrations of how lax about how untruthfull and inaccurate you could be in your descriptions in those days. The mere notion that CHS would remain the same afrter a barrel change or that the fore-end would not require further fitting............ what sheer horse manure.........
