Which barrel wrench for 30-40.
I have been looking at barrel wrenches for my Krag
restoration. Some are over $150. Wheeler offers some less expensive, but none are for the Krag. Would another one work, for example, a Remington?

Kanterj, The round receiver ring of the Krag
doesn't give much to grab onto. I've seen some wrenches that are basically a U bolt thru a long bar and some that are a hole thru a thick plate split in hallf with two bolts to squeeze it together. I like htis one:

It might be costly though to have one made.
Also, Do you have a barrel vise?

I got a wrench etc. that will fit IF I can remove a welded on sight base on the old barrel. Speaking of that welded on base. I'm going to re barrel this rifle. I have the barrel and the necessary tools, but that welded on stuff is not allowing the wrench to get to the action. I thought maybe I could torch it off. I could also grind it off. Any suggestions.

Is it an original sight or sporter type? Originals were silver brazed into a shallow dovetail. A ramp style sporter sight is usually screwed on or soft soldered and screwed. If it is an original sight I would try to save it. Salt Flat

What action wrench did you finally settle on?
