Had one for a while. Yugoslavian parts, IIRC. It would run through a drum way too quickly! Otherwise, the only downside is that it's not as handy as a regular AK.

Anybody want to tell me what to expect from this beast,
It has almost no recoil,, accuracy is not bad out to about 350/400 yards,, 100% reliable.
I am not a fan of top cover mounted scopes. If it's loose, try the open sights or a rail mounted optical.

Thank you all for the collection of responses so far.
I seem to be hooked on the 7.62x39 round for now, I have an order in for a “throw back” looking AR. I have gone through four different SKS’s so far. I love them, just haven’t found the one I want to hold on to yet. Maybe now, with an AK style rifle, I will have incentive to save up and get the SKS-D I have always wanted to get. Momma has promised me (as long as we are still employed) a RPD for Christmas (MORE 7.62x39 in BELT form). My experiences with the SKS have shown the dark side of the scope mounting on receiver cover. It has been removed and replaced with the smooth original cover. One of my SKS’s had a (bubba) threaded barrel, with a “Monster” Tapco flash hider attached. I kept the FH and think it looks “COOL” on this RPK, so it stays here.
There is a GS coming up a mile from my house this weekend. I will be picking up some more ammo, you can NEVER have too much. I also want to find a GOOD side mount, and sling for this beast. I have a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20x50mm with a 5” sunshade, which I think will fit nice on top of this. Just what these old eyes need to reach out and touch something, about 75 times!
Here she is with BIG MOUTH and SMOOTH BUTT;

Very nice looking rifle indeed! I have really become fond of the AK platform rifles. They are a blast to build and cheap to shoot. I just built a Polish fixed stock AKM yesterday. I'm up to four now but I'll be building two more in the next two weeks. Retirement is fun!!!

FUN . . . Fun . . . fun . . .
I went to the gun show this morning. Picked up some food (Tulammo 123gr FMJ) for my new RPK, and some 182gr PPU 7.62x54r for my Mosin PU Sniper. First impression of the RPK, WOW! I loaded up the 75 round drum, and put 10 rounds in each of the 30 & 40 round magazines. I emptied the 30 & 40 rounders’ and burnt off 10 rounds from the drum (just shooting the berm, no target) to function test the mags. Not a single problem with any of them. I set the rear sight at “2”, loaded a full 30 round magazine, and started sighting in on a 8” site-N-see target at 50 yards. I was amazed to find my first 3 shots touching each other, although they were about 4” low and to the right. I was even MORE AMAZED that each group of 3 that I shot, as I adjusted the front sight to get zero, was touching or almost touching. After a final 5 shot group at the 50 yard target, I knew it was dialed in. I set the rear sight back to “1”, installed the drum with its left over load, and went to town on a silhouette target at 100 yards. Some slow fire, some double and triple taps, and even a little “This little piggy went to market as fast as I could squeeze the trigger”. I will leave the decision up to you as seen below, but I will say this is FUN!
FIRST 100yard Target 9/14/2013

As I mentioned above, I picked up some HEAVY 7.62x54r ammo for my PU Sniper. I was told by many people that the heavier ammo gets better results. I am FAR from being a rifleman, but I could almost get better groups at 100 yards from my .30 carbines as I was getting from the PU Sniper with 149gr surplus. Long story short, everyone was right! Here is my Sniper with the latest results using the 182gr PPU bullets. That flyer was my FIRST shot and would love to have it back! That is a standard 3” sticky circle on a silhouette target, 100 yards!
