Yes, and the sling from his wrist to the butt.

Now that picture epidermises exactly what happens when you ask a Cook to put down his ladles and go on the roof with his wannabee rifle and see what he can russle up for supper

Re the sling to the wrist. Not much chance of it being snatched up there........ Were they a snatch squad on a house search party Gil? N----- B. was on the search team?

Don't think so Peter, looks like someone who's picked up a lot of bad habits from many quarters.
It shows clearly the whole inexperience of the lad, who probably only tinkers with his rifle when he's bored, he would never have got away with that "Cowboy" attitude in tinkering with his rifle as the photo shows in an infantry unit, totally unacceptable especially if he is supposed to have attended and passed as a trained "sniper"
Could even be a setup photo as I don' t recognise the panoramic views if it is supposed to be NI

I too watched the program on BBC 1 "Britain
Secret Terror Force", I would agree that the No.32 was on an L1A1 SLR, BUT not on the clip of film shown in other posts. I have taken a screen shot of the L1A1 with the No.32 scope, and have selected a picture not to show the users face. But it can be clearly seen on the footage at around 19:00 –20:00 on BBC I player. Dan,
Yes saw that bit with a Green Jacket having one fitted to his rifle. But from my experience and those on the site who know more than me as a mere mortal, it would have been as useful as a porcupine in a durex factory fitted on an L1A1 SLR in a sniper role

The one in thread 45 is a Mk1 or 2 scope too! Sheer waste of time and rations................ Noit even remotely calibrated to an L1A1 rifle.
The snatch squad/house search I was referring to were the 2 Para in/on P4 Gil. Not the cook on the rooftop! Oooooops, sorry. Not cooks anymore. But CHEFS! We used to call them fitters and turners. Fitted the food into pots and turned it into shXt. Shouldn't say that really as they weren't bad at all.

Peter,
Yes followed that, one of many I'm afraid that we were involved in. I was tring to orientate myself to a possible place in NI that high as a crinkly iron OP. They were Divis Flats and New Lodge Flats which were the highest OP's in Belfast, but still can't recognise the landscape having done many stags there.
Yes and my sincere apologies go out to all slop jockeys, I mean of course Chefs. An Army moves on its stomach lol

I think this may be the type of sight in post #33 (the clear plastic front came in truncated cone or ball type)

MANY problems with these aiming devices. Not really sights as such.
