It looks like a commercial/longer trigger guard sling loop. Maybe you ought to speak to Brian at BDL
for a correct one (or modify what you have.....) and a set of eye caps.

Hi Codfan, very nice, you must be really happy with that find. It interestingly has a Mk2 fore-end reverted back to Mk1 and the rear sight is one of the Savage sights mentioned here on the forum previously. I think someone put the actual letter up which urgently requested a number of these rear sights for the no4 T. Don't know if anyone can expand further on that.

FWIW mine has the same type TG sling loop and I've seen photo's of a couple more that did as well. Only marking I see is an F on the screw head. Mine also has a PH marked front sight protector. Is there not some possibility that in the L42's last days in service some commercial parts were used to keep them going?

The PH marked foresight protectors were very probably a commercially sourced/contracted part in much the same way as we used to get P-H marked pistons etc as spare parts for the L1A1 rifle. And the L85's now that I think about it...... As for the sling loop, I think not. There wasn't a shortage of the correct, shorter item. But now that I think about it, I don't ever remember there being a shortage of foresight protectors either. But take it from me, the part number for the specified sling loop is the shorter one - for a good reason!

While we are on the topic of chests, does anyone have a spare label for the inside of the chest??? or know where I can purchase one???
