Nice looking Krag. Sorry, no hit in SRS. I'm thinking the CA is someones initials. Most unit/etc. are near the back of the stock. John

There seemed to be a lot of goings on at the Charleston Armory around the turn of the century. Could that "CA" be Charleston Armory?

Nice rifle. Mine is a cut down and I had to settle for that. I wonder about the letters, are they personalization? I have lots of that on mine...suppose I should do an expose' on it too...

I don't think it's personalization, I have seen others with the ordnance stamp the same initials. Bill Hollinger's suggestion might be a good one, hadn't thought of that. It would go right along with BA being Benicia Arsenal, which is a known. I put a link to this thread on the KCA forum, perhaps one of those old collector types can give us a definitive answer.

Looks like your guess didn't work out after all Bill. Here's what a knowledgeable Krag collector had to say: I presently have a rifle with the ordnance seal and "HH", have seen its' twin, and also once ran across "JJ". Have no idea what the meaning(s) is/are - sorry. I think it likely an ordnance inspection stamp with the inspector's initials below.
