Low Weaver rings were too low. Found in "my box" a set of cross lock Millets just a tad higher. Ocular housing just clears receiver ring. Took it up to the range with one clip of plain old 1964 Ball M2. A bit of fiddling @ 25 got it centered and the last three went out to 100 yds. They made a nice 3/4" group. (It is a NM rifle).
Clearly by far the best way to scope an M-1 ever conceived.
On NMs you do have to pin the normally floating front HG.

Looks like this
except my scope is a tad lower. It just works great with a stock set up for irons.
M1 Garand Scout Scope Mount
Been too busy playing with my SMLE, Swede 96 and Bushmaster 450 to dig it out for pics.
If you have a commercial account with Brownells you can get it cheaper.

Too bad it took 60 years to figure out this:
M39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When we could have had M-1s like mine out there in the 1940s. Think of this chambered in a 7mm/06 variant with 180 gr Berger VLDs. 1000 yard kills would happen and 8 shots quick is much better than any sniper bolt gun.

Very nice set-up.
I'm considering having an old Blue Sky imported M1 converted into a .308 "Mini-G" by Schuff's.
Tim can install the Optimak scout mount while he's at it. On mine, the '06 barrel's pitted and worn out anyway. So no choice but to re-barrel it.

The CMP sells a similar mount for around a hundred bucks that's made of milled aluminum. It it's no longer available I have one I am no longer using though I believe it's at my place in Tenn. at this time
