Need help on 1936 turk
Hi guy's i picked up a 1936 turk mauser today for a C-note. Rifle has matching numbers. bore is nice little haze to it an rough near muzzle, wood in nice shape, metal is almost bare not much finish at all. did not cast chamber yet to what caliber it is. my question is what is the markings on reciever.

Looks like a M1893 converted to 8x57. The ASFA marking stands for "Askari Fabrika" what means Military Factory. So it was modified in a military factory near Ankara in 1936.

1893 Turk
You have an early 1893 Turk Mauser. Made as a 7.65mm Mauser, then converted in 1936 to 8mm Mauser. They are not as strong as the later M1898 Mausers.

thank you both i know i got to make a chamber cast to make sure what cal it is.

If it is marked 1936 on the receiver it is 8x57

Turk Mauser
The Turks went through a huge re-build effort in the mid-1930's. All of the old Gew88's, Gew93's and Gew98's were re-barreld into 8mm Mauser. Almost nothing escaped. You have an 8mm Mauser there.

hi thank you for that info i have been waiting for my order of casting material. but did try a dummy 8mm an bolt closed very smoothly. so now its time to hit the range
