L96A1 manufacturer
While thumbing through an old edition of Target Gun magazine I came across an article announcing the fact that the Swedish
army had selected Accuracy International's AW (PSG90) as their sniper rifle following a 6 year evaluation programme (the magazine is the May '91 edition)
The article mentions that Accuracy International will be manufacturing this rifle in-house unlike the L96 that was subcontracted to Pylon Engineering of Crayford.
The article goes on to say thay Pylon Engineering went in to receivership in September 1990.
Does anyone know anything about this company and their link to the L96?

I seem to recall that only PARTS of the old L96 were sub contracted out. And this was said to be the problem. AI didn't have full control of the quality or the material or the machining and finish of the out-sourced material. Won't say any more because............ But the flaws proved to be, er........, catastrophic. So just make sure that if you own and shoot an L96, the serial number is suffixed by the letter C.
Notice how judicious I have been with my reply? Anyone else giving an answer ought to be as careful

Interesting...............
Can you expand on the meaning of the letter 'C' ?

Read previous articles on the subject of the rifle suggests the owner of 0774-C and 1192-C

Peter, if there is a genuine safety issue with this rifle, and you know what it is can you share it with us? My L96 doesn't carry a letter C suffix however it did spend around seventeen years as a military owned rifle. Surely if there were any issues regard safety to the user it would have been pulled from service long before it was eventually de-mobbed.

The C is a SUFFIX and not a PREfix. Before I go into all the palava again and repeat myself, please read the previous articles.
Rifles that were tucked away 'out of service' as yours will have escaped the annual UEI/PRE regieme
