M-1 Carbine Butt Plate Identification

Guys,

Please see the below photos and see if you can tell me which manufacture produced this butt plate. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

The butt plate came on a 4,843,000 QHMC with a Rock-Ola stock and hand guard. More than likely a re-built rifle.

Looks like a Winchester plate to me. But I've apparently been wrong before, even recently, so take this for what it's worth. Did the other metal from the stock it came from have any markings?

Late Winchester is looking good...

I thought it was a "late Winchester" as well. Looked at too many dot and photos to be sure. Everything else on the rifle stock is Rock-Ola "Q" marked for QHMC

Ok, I think we all agree it's a Winchester/late, Should it be a QHMC or a Rock-Ola butt plate for a QHMC with a correct Rock-Ola stock?

It is late Inland. The one Riesch shows as late Inland is an early Inland. This one is the late Inland butt plate. All Winchester butt plates had either all dots bleed into hole or all but top dots bleed into hole. I think it is shown on Chestnut Ridge as late Winchester. When ever I see one like it on a Winchester, I know it is a restoration. The only exception, I know of in the above, is a lot of six million Winchester used NPM butt plates.

I've been going by, if the circle is into the dots more at the bottom - it's late Winchester. If the circle is into the dots more at the top (and 6 dots in top row) - it's IBM. If the circle is evenly into the dots - it's Inland, from about 10K on. What's the one on p. 116 of Riesch's 6th edition? I've thought it to be late Winchester, maybe it's not? I've not seen a lot of Winchesters - but some pictured with buttplates having the circle into the dots more at the bottom. The answer might be that there's quite a bit of variation in the stamping of the Inland buttplates, but they are none the less, still Inland. - Bob

Circle evenly covers dots on my 4.927 Inland w/OI stock.

When you guys say "Late Inland, " what s/n ranges are you talking about? The OP's buttplate is definitely different that a couple of my Inlands. Mine has the center "circle" stamped more evenly into the dots. Thanks! - Bob
