Carbine with no rear sight dovetail?
Hello Military Surplus Collectors, I need some help identifying whether or not this is a real thing. I am potentially trading for a Standard Products carbine serial 215XXXX. The odd thing about this carbine is that it seems to have no dovetail for the rear sight at all. The gentleman is claiming that it was an early model carbine and never had a dovetail. I've been trying to do some research into rear sights, but have thusfar not been able to find any reference at all to a carbine that did not have a rear sight dovetail. Was there ever such a thing, or is this seller just trying to fleece an unsuspecting buyer?
Thank you,
~GrumpyPappaBear

Probably a modified carbine for the Bavarian or border patrol police in Germany
. The rear sight was completely removed and a notch sight put in front of the receiver. If you show us, we can confirm things for you. Not a one off, or an experimental at all...

Grumpy, welcome to milsurps.com. We are very please to have you as a member here. You will find we have the greatest bunch of fellas the net has to offer.
The story you are being told is not correct. Pictures would be great if you are able to post some. My guess is someone machined the dovetail off to mount a scope or aftermarket rear sight.

Is there a threaded hole where the dovetail used to be?

Grumpy; these guys are not really trying to be buttholes - they think 'inside jokes' are funny. What they find so funny (at your expense) is there was recently posted a carbine sight that had been modified to screw into something. Now you come up with a shaved receiver and they snidely ask if it has a threaded hole...ain't that a scream?
Anyway, probably a Bavarian or a Bubba job for whatever reason.

It simply looks as if the entire hump where the dovetail is just not there. There are no threaded holes on the top, though I suspect that the left side does because i believe the current owner has one of those side mounted williams peep sights on there. Judging by the lack of an open sight welded to the front of the receiver i'm guessing it is not a bavarian carbine?

If it's Bubba, then he's getting a little better at his welding practice. Are there any holes drilled in the left side of the receiver for a scope mount. This has to have been done for some kind of scope one would think. There's not much of another sane reason to have down something like this.
BTW, it's a shame that the guy tried to tell you a "story" like there was an early carbine that didn't have a dovetail. Unfortunately, ignorance and out and out fraud sell.

There was nothing about it that was at his expense. Don't put words in our mouths.
No, this one looks to have been completely altered by removing the whole sight. Wonder if we can get pics of the side now? There must be more to this. But still, it's not an experimental or one off...it's altered from original.
