Sling
My original RIA sling is two pieces sewn together, the ends are skived or tapered and sewn with straight parallel rows of stitches.

The 'splice' is correct on the 66 1/2" model-1887 slings. IIRC - The 1887 sling was made by piecing together surplus U. S. Civil War slings.

My sling is the later double hook type.

Although the leather may have come from 're-cycled' C.W. slings, the model-1887 sling has one riveted brass fitting with two long 'hooks'. (Not the single central 'hook' used during C.W.). The other end is anchored with a brass double-headed 'button'.
Photo of an original 66" Krag
sling, that displays skillful arsenal done splice, as well as, a later crude repair of a break.

That is what this sling has.
