SA Jan 1931 USN barrel with marks
A lot of people do not know that the US Navy sold 1903 barrels at the Great Lakes retail store up to the mid 1960's. These barrels came from rifles used in the boot camp. I had an old friend that purchased a few including a '41 dated Sedgley too. The USN sold 1903A3 barreled actions for $10 and the 1903 barrels for $3 they never sold low number receivers

Now I understand. I couldn't see them using a pipe wrench...unless the barrel is scrap. Then I've seen it in writing to "only use a pipe wrench if the barrel is to be scrap"...but have no written proof.

Does any-one know if rifle/gun barrels in general are normally attached to the receiver with a right hand thread or is it dependant on the make with a similar proportion of makes being left hand thread? It is understandable damage being done to barrels and receivers if there is confusion over the type of thread being employed i.e. left or right hand.

Not really a reply to your rifle barrel thread questions, but a lot of barrels for the AK-47 (and assorted copies) have a left hand muzzle thread

I have three sizes, that being one of them. Bigger is better when applying torque.

I can't think of any with left hand thread... (Not muzzles)...the AK was done so the deflector wouldn't unthread during firing(They thought)...

You are correct sir! The muzzle had the opposite hand thread.
