The gold might be a coating of cosmoline Frank, maybe try some acetone or paint thinner and see if it disappears. The plum color is from a salt bath that needs either more heat or more solution when bluing. Like receivers in 94 Winchesters and a few M1 trigger mechs that have turned purple, it's just the steel composition and the bluing solution that cause this. No increase in value I'm afraid...
