Nice bit of humour Bruce, Do you have the essential bottle opener disguised as a stable belt ?

No stable belt; no stables, either.
We didn't go "formal" very often.
And these days, you only need an "emergency opener" when the local brew in "twist tops" is expended, or your hands are too sore from winding them off.
The usual "workshop improvised" openers consisted of something out of the tool-box, or for the up-market types, a .50 Cal case with a suitably-shaped notch cut out near the case-head; inert / dummy projectile optional. Really "flash" samples of these would have a RAEME badge attached.

Same here regarding stables....... Not really a "formal" bit of kit here anymore, there was a point the RSM wanted all to wear one..... the reply was something in the line of " you buy them we will wear them, Sir"
I was on a train last week watching a lad trying to open a bottle with a key in front of his Wife/Girlfriend, in the end had to step in and show him the correct key and several other ways..... even showed the old newspaper folded in the correct way.....

Hi, I still have my stable belt, it would be lucky to fit around the top of one of my legs nowdays. I think that when wearing Battle Dress, corp lanyard and the stable belt was the best looking uniform ever. and yes its a RAEME stable belt.

Strange that you should mention embellishments and the like, my wife is always at me to get rid of the lot.
Probably because I dragged out her old uniforms and formal wear(she was one of the last WRAAC's before they were integrated) in response to a thread on Nurses uniforms.
Always was going to fit out some dummies(she reckons I'm the only dummy) but the stuff is just cluttering up the house, the only thing she has not got into ................................................. woops, too late, my collection of RAEME Port.

I was in NZ in the time of severe overseas funds restrictions. As I was paid into my bank in Aust dollars (or was it Sterling?) The blokes used to get me to order and pay for REME stable belts from Bordon in Sterling. I arranged for about 15 of them that came through the Military Attache in Wellington so that the Army/govt paid the postage. I seem to recall that in Australia we only ever wore the standard REME stable belt because it was made as a generic EME stable belt. You can tell the old ones because the buckles were made from pressed yellowy nickel brass. Current ones are a chrome pot metal as I recall

Armoury Field Workshop...New Guinea or Dutch East Indies?
That photo with the KNIL Madsen ( 6,5x53R M95 cartridge) is neat...obviously captured from Japanese Troops, which prized them for their versatility.
I have a "Biscuit tin" of 6,5 ammo, with Dutch markings on one side, and Japanese Kanji markings on the other ( came out of Indonesia in 1980s direct to Australia)...still sealed. The Loose (clipped) ammo ( from same shipment) is still mostly sure-fire, but the Berdan Primers ( 5,00mm Roth) are getting hard to find (RWS #5005).
Those Wooden "Horses" were made up as required; even the Vice soft clams were made by the Armourers. I have a" clamp on" one made to accompany my Padded vice on my workbench for Rifles.

Well she did leave one...........there were 11 in this set, one from each workshop, this was the last of the run, the year before I pulled the pin after 26 years.
