Peter,
The ones that were stationed with Ferrets at Bessbrook in the early days, were sound vehicles for use in culvert searches. Not sure how long they would have lasted in a 500lb COOP mix underneath them though.
The ones there 30mm Rardens from memory, albeit the true Alvis fit was a 76mm L5A1. Two M1919A4 machine guns, which were effective in open territory, hence why they were moved from Belfast/Londonderry to the border.
It was replaced by the FV101 Scorpion light tank, which chopped off more heads then you could shake a stick at, when the track pins came out I remember......perhaps one of the REME lads will fill in the gaps. I see to think it only happened in BAOR on road use at speed.

That was an accurate gun. I've watched them operate.

That was another thing I'd heard but not known for truth.

This is a GR7A Harrier serial number ZD469 at the gates of RAF Wittering even today, as it was home to Number 1 Squadron, until the MOD decided to sell the whole lock stock and barrel to the U.S. Marine Corps. It is now home to the University Air Squadron GROB training aircraft.
Real shame.
I was going to place a photo produced by serving airmen on here as squadrons flew over Downing Street on a final fly past before departing to the States, but it may offend some for what their formation spells out in the air!!

Oddly the gate guardians at Coningsby are a fair distance beyond the gate. They've got a Tonka and a Phantom and much further on site is an EE Lighting.

There is another GR7 Harrier still in the U.K. and now privately owned by Mr James Dyson. This aircraft had a slight mishap or problem which caused it to end up in the sea while operating from HMS Invincible but fortunately the pilot ejected and survived. The Harrier was salvaged and eventually sold off.

Thats not the Harrier you see on u-tube is it F10 where the seasiders having a dip get a ringside seat view of a total power failure with the ejection and plane flopping into the drink.
Yes salt water does not do much for the electrics/engine or the aluminium even aircraft grade gather it was scrapped.
Heres the footage;

RAF/USAF Alconbury in Cambridgeshire with an F5 on its side. Yes its still there, but under the last administration there was talk, that Molesworth/Alconbury and Mildenhall were due for the chop in the UK just leaving Lakenheath on its own. Hope Trump reviews that decision in light of world events!! and keep local businesses and jobs booming both ways.
