I noticed this thing on eBay which is thought, by the vendor, to be for use with the Bren. Has anyone who has used a Bren any knowledge of the item, please?

It's just a general teaching aid used in basic map reading, fire-orders, etc etc.
How do you use it? You or the class instructor gives a location verbally - or it comes in from an OP on the radio (in the next class room!) and you indicate the target. The instructor looks along the other segment and confirms. Or slaps you round the back of the head and tells you to stop being a turkey and listen properly next time. Many uses like that

you hold it up using the left sight on your right eye, your partner or whom ever you need to see the exact same spot (tree, bush, window etc) as you, looks over your right shoulder looking down the site on the right. you are now both looking at the exact same point at the same time. no verbal gibberish, indeed no verbal communication needed to convey what you have observed and sharing that observation with the guy behind you. I pack it with my No4T as part of my sniper kt.

I was just demonstrating it this last weekend at our encampment. You hold it like a pistol, but close to my right eye like the gun sight it is. as that wide handle folds straight down, i Hand it to people to figure it out, the kids figure it out right away. My other trick is showing the large capacity Bren mags compared to the ordinary Bren mags.

Its a good place to see some Brens, Stens Enfields, Ross, 2 inch and 3 inch mortars, Maybe a PIAT. Lots of blanks, every manner of WW2 and other era's in Canadian Military History. Swap lies and tall stories .

Harry's absolutely right, it's called a "staff pointer" and it's used to indicate targets and for pointing out ground features during a briefing. Still issued by the British army.
