    Your SMLE YOU MENTIONED

My rifle has stamped on the right side by the bolt with the Enfield Seal on top, below that is the name Enfield

    SMLE
    III =

The left side has stamped FIR
    1931

On the barrel in front of the breach is stamped R 5784 which I assume is the serial number.

When I purchased this rifle, the seller told me it was a 7x57 cal., but I cannot find where Enfield ever made a 7x57 cal.

Can anyone tell me if this is correct or is this a .303?

    Dear Rob,

SMLE only came in .303 and a training version Morris tubed in .22, yours is a MK 3 and the 1931 date indicates that it may have been rebarreled then,in the absence of proof marks, possibly carried out in the US. You will have to try a .303 and 7x75 round and see what one fits the chamber, do it gently!!

    Hello all,
I've been reloading 30+ years, former Marine Ordnanceman and I collect Milsurp, obviously. Shooters, not museum peices. I'm hoping I learn something here as well as find entertaining discussion of older arms. (1st Milsurp is a 98k I got at 12 years old. Still have it 40 years later!)

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum also. I've been "into Garands " for the past 10 years. Also "into trap shooting" and "former Muscle car nut" owned 5- 70 SS-396 and 454 Chevelles over a 30 year period.

Now retired and too old to "crawl under cars"

    Talking new member

    Hi crew,
I've been "accumulating" for over 40 years.
I'm into US Military and collect everything from the civil war to present.
I've gathered more than a few, but not quite enough.
I just purchased a mystery 1917 winchester and thought you guys might help answer some questions.
This 1917 has the rear sight guts removed and has a 1903 springfield rear sight installed on the barrel(with a professionally modified hand guard) and 1903 front sight.
Anybody have a clue how it came to be??
    I would appreciate any info.

    thanks,
    SavannahJoe

    Hello all,

I got here through CSPicon. Hang out on M14icon Firing Line a bit. I have a few Garands (an IHC CMPicon CG I will probably post FS here shortly), a couple M1 Carbines, Enfields, an '03 Springfield, a couple M1As.

    Thanks for this forum,
    Stan

New member and already worthwhile. Learned about "THE load" by CE Harris and was astounded that I had never heard of it before! Checked my powder magazine and I am off tomorrow to buy a can of Red Dot, assuming I can find/afford it in Central Texas. My knowledge base is small so I'll mostly lurk and learn.
