Spare parts...

It occurred to me that as the supply of rifles dries up the supply of quality spare parts can't be far behind. Since I'd like to be able to keep my surplus rifles running in the future I thought it might not hurt to pick up some spare parts for each rifle. So with that in mind I thought I'd ask the more experienced and knowledgeable regarding the 1903a3, what spare parts should I pick up while I can and prices are still reasonable?

Not sure on '03's in regards to spares you'se guys in the US can get just about anything you require for your guns whilst we here are pretty much limited to screws and such unless you got on the train 15-20 years ago and squirreled stuff away like some of us have.
Guess springs some screws a good barrel if your going to shoot it allot, spare wood as you never know when something errant may occur and you need it, some foresight blades if you change the barrel.

Nothing should happen to the rifles we own and I guess the way we treat them they are not going to break but we have to consider their past life and age stuff does fatigue (lose tension).
I get pounded by certain types with the 303 spares I carry and yep I may die and never need them but I have helped a few out at the club when stuff has broken on their rifles and they get the sad sack look well thats my shoot gone, but I pull them out of the p**.
The most recent was in Nov '16 with a head separation at an invitational shoot in Perth I was scoring for the chap when it happened he was knackered but I ran back to my kit and got the case remover as it was a timed event and got the case out, I know I have heard stories of pushing another round up there to get the stuck case body out but what happens if that gets stuck others may be braver than me besides he did not have a spare rifle I did.

In 1911, there was a spare parts container adopted for the 1903 rifle. This was a walnut cylindrical block milled out inside to hold a spare striker, extractor and firing pin. Stocks were also modified at this
time with a clearance cut in the area were the cleaning rod was stored in the butt.

There are far more repros than originals around. I do not know how these were issued but might guess one per squad ?

A few months ago I picked up a spare parts package, I don't remember from what forum, that included a firing pin rod, striker, front sight base, sear, trigger and pin and a sear retaining pin. I think I paid $35 for the lot. All Remington marked.

I should stop buying parts, that's how I ended up with five M14's.........................

I am living through the ordeal, but have limited my M14 spares to springs, extractors and firing pins now.

However I have everything to put together another Garand except for a receiver...............

I know we are getting off topic a lot, but I would have four M14 receivers (USGI) ...

If I were in the US and was using my 03A3, I'd get a complete spare bolt and a complete spare barrel for it. Just in case anything happens.
