Tokarev Pistol 1940
Here is my 1940 Tokarev pistol. Obtained long ago and I was pleased to find it.
Somewhere before it passed to me it was converted to 9mm. It still has an original 7.62 magazine. It looks refinished. It shoots very well but feeds poorly from the mag. I enjoyed it the way it is for many years, but recently I did get an original 7.62 barrel and a link and pin. At sometime I am going to give it a try and get this fitted and then be able to shoot the original caliber.

I have a 1938 Russian Tok and a 1958 Tokagypt in 9mm. I learned elsewhere that I can use my Tok mags (7.62x25) in my Tokagypt (9×19). I didn't believe it would cycle until I tried it. It worked just fine! If you want you can get oem 9mm Tokagypt mags but they can be pricey. There cheaper and less expensive 9mm makes from a Chinese Norinco pistol that will work in your Tok as well. But, I can't recall the model number. I have several of those as well.
Enjoy your Tok in 9mm. It looks nice.

Welcome to the forum Donald, these guns came into Canada in 7.62 years ago and we had no ammo so the 9mm barrels came out. Th mags had a mod that put in a spacer so they took 9mm but I never heard of problems using the originals. It's also odd to hear someone wants to convert to the original caliber, but that's how far we've come with ammo now. Easy to get. Many here also had both barrels...fitting shouldn't be much of an issue. Should go right in. They aren't really high tech. If the mags don't work, just sell them and get others, that's easiest.

Anybody have a guess on the 9mm barrel origin? It has no marks. It is a good barrel and the pistol is accurate. Pistol has no other marks other than what was put on by the Russians. I will keep an eye out for the Tokagypt mag. I would like to have a 9mm mag that fits well and feeds well.
