Perma Blue

I use the Birchwood Casey Perma Blue, Luis, although I wouldn't fancy doing an entire Bren Gun with it. I normally only use it for small parts such as bands and screws etc and for touching up. It is possible to get that vintage, dull, blue look with this product by first leaving the item that you wish to blue in a phosphoric acid dip metal treatment for a few hours and normally I would leave an item in the acid overnight before removing. After removing the item from the acid I then immediately wipe all excess acid off with clean rags or paper wipes until dry. The metal should have a light dull grey colour and after about half an hour the liquid blue can be applied directly onto this surface. I have also had good results with bead blasting parts before dipping in the acid. If you apply this blue to a shiny steell surface you will most likely end up with a shiny blue surface which will look wrong for the type of finish that you require.

Luis, I'm not sure if Vincent is talking about shake can car paint or body shop spray gun paint that you mix with thinners etc before use? I suspect that it's body shop paint that you use with a spray gun?

I don't know but for me Paint looks like paint. Since you can't find bluing chemicals I would just use a homebrew Blue or Parkerizing. If you do a google or yahoo search for "homemade zinc phosphate parkerizing solution" or "homemade blueing salts" you will find a bunch that should work well for you.

I have read all the comments carefully, but as I said at the beginning , here I only find products like Perma Blue. I have searched and read many google sites on how to make a proper treatment, as usabaker comments, but I do not feel able to do something like that. For now I will start cleaning the entire surface of the receiver, while analyzing what kind of protection against the rust applied. I have possibility of using automotive paint, although I prefer the spray can.

Can you get Mark Lee Express Blue #1 in your country? If so, it's easy to use, and gives excellent results.
