Help identifying Springfield 1922 M2
I have recently inherited a Springfield 1922 M2 and I am looking for help identifying my specific rifle. The research I have done has left me with many questions. The barrel is dated 12-22 just behind the front sights. The bolt carrier is marked
U.S Springfield Armory
Model of 1922
CAL. .22
M2 1773 A
Any input would be greatly appreciated. If any further info would be helpful please let me know.

Initially wasn't sure how to post pics but have since figured it out. Quality isn't the best but this is what I have at this time. If any specific views would be helpful please let me know. Thanks

It would appear to be an original M1922 rifle that has been converted to the M2 configuration ( most of them were ) by adding the M2 bolt. I don't think I have seen the added M2 marking on the receiver in that manner before.

What does being one of the original 2020 produced do for collectability and value. How would you value this rifle compared to alot of the later productions.

In his article in he April/July 2001 issue of U. S. Martial Arms Collector magazine, that late Fred Ewalt suggested may have been only 30 1922 models converted to M2 and stamped with the A suffix ever in existence. I think this number is low as I have owned one of them and observed several more over the years. Due to the finish, stock, bolt, rear sight and magazine not being origiinal I suggest the subject rifle is of little interest of a collector and would sell for about the same price as a 1922M1 model that has been upgraded to 1922MII and marked with he B suffix to the sn. I believe the scope block holes in the receiver to be aftermarket work. There should be two additional holes in the barrel centered 7.2 inches forward of the holes in the receiver.

Who ever drilled the holes on the reinforce at the chamber had one eye shut as they are most definitely way out of line

The conversion with the extra receiver marking puts it in the same category as any of the other conversions which would be from $800 to $1,000. An unaltered M1922 is probably worth $2,500 to $3,000 and I do not know where to find one.
