Just got off the phone with eBay. Seller ESCALATED the case. eBay agent was from some foreign nation and it was painful to talk to him. He could not understand that the listing should have been listed as "for parts or not working" instead of "used".
Anyone purchasing a USED item from eBay should be aware that it cannot be broken. The eBay agent did not seem to understand that. Well, it seems I will have to eat the shipping charge.

eBay gets (more than) their fair share of fees, but this is a seller problem, not an eBay problem.
I recently sold a stock I thought was for a 1916 Spanish mauser. Turns out I was wrong. I refunded the sellers complete cost including his return shipping. I was *wrong*, it was the right thing to do. Sounds like you ran into a crap seller. It happens.

This "mod"allows you to engage safety with the hammer not cocked(if I remember right?),that was why they did it.

Yes, it will engage with the hammer forward, so it doesn't work. "They" didn't do it, it's busted...and the safeties were all discards. Metal fatigue will do that after time.

"...E-Bay gets (more than) their fair share of fees..." Yep and promptly gives funds to the people who want to take your firearms away from you. Broken parts or not.

Pardon my ignorance but why on earth didn't you just order a safety that isn't broken from a reputable dealer? I prefer Amhearst Arms for items I don't have but there are several other reputable folks who would be happy to sell you a good one including myself. I just looked and have a half dozen in the M1
Rifle parts drawer.
