Just a guess, but it looks like the 101st ABN heading out for Bastogne.

We were transported in enclosed "cattle" cars in basic and AIT. Civilian drivers who drove like "bats out of Hades" and slung us around in the back. If they ever missed a curve then we all would have been dead. Now they use buses.
When I was stationed at Ft. Lewis in the 70s, they used the cattle cars to transport us to field. One time we were being transported to the South Rainier Training area we passed through the small town of Yelm. As we went through the middle of town, we all started "mooing" loudly and kicking the sides. You should have seen the look on the residents faces.

Exactly the time frame I envisioned too...I know this stuff was used with the RVN guys but I suspected the busses had taken over about the '80s, or by the end of them at least.

Yes, that was done...on occasion...

We had the cattle cars at Ft Polk and Ft Sill in the late 60s. No civilian drivers though. Always one of the Training company or battery members did the driving.

That was back when I was riding the back step of a fire engine to work. They don't do that anymore either.
