Gents, I contacted the guy who sold me the rifle and inquired about returning it. He agreed to, but had the following comment, "The rifle is a last ditch rifle with a wooden butt plate a unfinished barrel. The Japanese used what they had to get rifles out to the field so your explanation is not correct ..most all have mis matched parts. "
Do you think that's an accurate statement, or is he just trying to cover his mistake in how he represented the rifle? Not sure if I should keep it, or return it. I paid $350 for it. Would appreciate your opinions. Thanks!

I would return it in a heartbeat.
He is pulling your leg. Chances are, he knows exactly what he has. If you're going to refurbish a rifle, at least find a donor rifle from the same manufacturer for the parts.

You’d be surprised how often this is true for old firearms.
When a sling swivel sells for $25, the parts really add up!
After looking the photos over one more time, this rifle's parts would no way bring close to $400 to anyone who knew what they were buying. This is not an early 99 with all the bells and whistles that could be sold off individually. There is nothing of value on these substitute rifles other than the stock and matching bolt.
This rifles Nagoya stock looks to be duffle cut at rear band, thus worthless as a collectable.
The rear band appears to be from a 25th series Kokura. Very common sling swivels that generally sell for $5-10 each. Trigger housing screws bring $5 each. Really!
