A sight made by David Tubb was popular for AR based long range match rifles. They provided the addition elevation needed to shoot 1000 yards as well.

The regs say the rifle must appear to be rack grade. I just wondered if there was a level approved for use at Camp Perry.

Look up "dominant eye" in regard to marksmanship - I found it most noticeably a factor for handgun shooting, but it may have something to do with your problem. CC

The other thing that comes into play is of course the vague and fickle nature of the human brain.
The MK1 eyeball is plugged into this and it also explains why no two people will shoot the same rifle the same way.
By way of an example, I ran out of targets at my local range, so the fellow shooting to my right kindly offered me some of his home printed practice targets.
These were a simple white target with a black bull in the centre. To my surprise, my groups all tightened up, with all my rifles!
The only thing that changed here, is how my brain "locked on" to the target ...

Spirit levels may be used with Match but not with Service Rifles.
