Fortunately in my archive (attic) I happened to have a 1960 museum catalogue for the Montagu Motor museum, Beaulieu and the actual aircraft, pictured in post 1 and my previous post 10 is listed as an exhibit. It would seem that this aircraft had a very senior member of the RAF use it, post WW2, according to the museum catalogue.

I note even in 1953, it was stated to be one of the last war time spitfires!!

. When entering this site click on aircraft and Spit Mk XVIe,
not the Mk IX or the MkXVI. I hope this helps in your Quest for more info.

If some of you old timers have a book entitled "Spifire-The Story of a Famous Fighter" by Bruce Robertson printed in 1960 and published by Harleyford Publications, there is a photo of SL721 painted as J-MR on page 108.
