Hello!
Guess I need to introduce myself or else I'm gonna see that message at the top saying I haven't done so yet till I die of old age.
Been on here for a while just lurking as I don't feel I'm much of an expert at any of the military rifles, altho I've owned, at one time or another, and shot all the official military rifles of the USA back to the Rev. War.
Been shooting one kind of a rifle or another since I was 8.
Currently playing with a Garand, for which I'd like to find a new, short-chambered barrel for. The one it has is good enuf for jacketed bullets but I want to start using it in the CBA Military Postal Comp.'s and the current barrel tends to foul up to much (i.e. - a bear to clean!) when shooting cast bullets.
Did very well shooting an '03 Springfield so thought I'd give the Garand a try.
So, if anyone knows where I can get one I'd sure appreciate it.

Hello to all. May 6, 2009
I joined here sometime in 2008, just after I became active on CGN, and neglected this site until last night. Unfortunately, I chose Sparse Grey Hackle as my user name whereas I should have stuck with my CGN Sly Old Fox.
In perusing the site last night, I found many of the CGNutz.
If anyone out there can suggest how I can change my user name here to Sly Old Fox, I would be grateful.
Thanks
Sparse Grey Hackle who is really Sly Old Fox
Moderator Edit: Sly Old Fox has been a registered member since Feb 2008 and already posted in this introduction thread. (CLICK HERE). So, obviously you can't use that name sine it's already taken, unless of course you are the same indvidual and just forgot you already registered.

Hi everybody - another new member. I have had guns for 20 years but just recently got interested in military surplus. I bought a FN FAL and have just started realizing what a neat rifle it was and is. In fact I found the forum as I was searching for some info but now that I am here I am having a hard time finding anything related to the FN FAL. Am I doing something wrong or have I misunderstood the forum. Anyway I will spend more time looking around. Glad to make your acquaintance.

Winchester 1917
Hey yall
I am a new member here, thought this might be a good place to get some information. Googled winchester 1917 and came up with bunches of results several from here.
About 15 yrs ago my father in law gave me a rifle that he got in a barrel of guns, yes thats right a barrel of guns. He was in the National guard many many years ago and the government was selling off surplus guns for $50 a barrel. Well he bought one and in it was 2 german mausers, 2 japanese rifles, 2 russian rifles, 2 american, and a couple that he didnt know anything about plus a couple of hand guns.
To make a long story short he gave me onf of the american rifles. I had various hunting guns so I just kinda stuck that one in the gun cabinet and forgot about it. My step son was looking at them the other day ( he is into video games call of duty being one of them) and thought the rifle looked like a german kar 98. He askedme about it and I had no real information to give him so I started trying to find out about it my self.
It is marked winchester on top of the reciever with a sn 407984.
Behind the front sight there is a round ball with what looks like fire on it with 8-18 stamped into the barrel, there is a w stamped into the bolt handle and another one stamped into the front sight. Afew other ball and fire stamps appear on the gun at various places as well eagle heads stamped into the furniture. It is in good shape just a few dings in the wood and a couple of scratches on the ears of the rear sight. The barrel looks as if it has never been fired before.
Any information I can get would be greately appriciated.
Thanx

New member, old user/collector. Been around shooting for 50 years, will be doing research for personal pleasure. Like the military firearms and history of their use.
