.22 semi automatic Fal build.
Afternoon fellow milsurpers.
I've given up looking, but does anyone remember a few years back when someone here posted images of a bitsa Franken Fal, .22 semi auto build.
Folding stock, solid barrel, Fal reciver, inch pattern trigger group, HK blow back bolt group etc...
I seem to recall the owner had issues with the odd inadvertent 'burst of automatic' .
Anyone with a better memory than me (just about everyone), or better search skills?

Can't find it either and don't remember it. I know we've discussed .22 conversions though. Are you going to make a .22 barrel for one? It shouldn't run FA unless your trigger mech is faulty. I shot lots of the HK kit with the regular C1 and had none of it unless I altered things...

Hi Jim,
Thanks for looking mate.
I remember the post about 2 years ago, someone joined in mid thread from memory with a .22 Fal 'bitsa' build they were having occasional automatic fire problems with.
I seem to recall the "group advice" was to ensure the reciver rails were clean and not obstructed if that helps ring any bells....
The guy bought the piece and no idea as to its history.
He posted a picture of the metric/inch mixmaster and I've been trying to find it in connection with a good friends upcoming project rifle...

I'll look again but hard to find without more hints for search... The .22 cal and the insert should do it but don't. Still, all in good repair and good ammo...should be no auto fire.

Cheers Jim,
Ill have to sit and have a really methodical look through...
Problem is, it was a mid thread interruption from memory

Any FAL .22 semi-auto build would cost a fortune now. Probably did when the guy did the one you're thinking about was built too. As far as I know there were no .22 calibre FAL barrels. Making one would be astronomically expensive. Might have been an FNC with a chamber insert though. Only FAL .22's I've ever heard of were a barrel insert and breech block the CF had.
"...occasional automatic fire..." That'd likely be caused by the ammo. Target velocity vs Standard or High Velocity would probably do it. Shot with a guy who had a semi'd Uzi that'd rock and roll with cast bullet ammo.
Spelling and Grammar count!

Nope, just make a normal barrel, no gas port and just follow the dimensions. Nothing special.

Poor ammo will only make it fail to function. You'd need to have used one to know that though.
You're talking about two completely different systems of operation, you need to study them and learn to tell them apart.

There was a purpose built .22LR semi-auto FAL produced by Imbel in Brazil many years ago. They pop up for sale every now and again. A friend of mine in Modesto, California imported several of them if memory serves.

Unfortunately, that could cause bankruptcy in a F/A state, you'd go through far too much ammo...
Here's some poop on it though... FAL training rifles from Brazil -The Firearm Blog
