webley 455 - trying to determine serial number

Whoever nickeled that revolver has sanded and polished it within an inch of its life then re-stamped the numbers with some non-original style stamps. I suspect that is not the correct number.

i couldn't find a serial number when i took the grip covers off. any other thoughts? i have no idea where else to look or how to determine value. not sure when he picked it up. just remember it from my childhood.

Agree with above , buffed enough to remove all inspector ,mark and property stamps would also remove original serial numbers.

so stupid question = what does that do to the value? how in the world do i determine? and what's best path if i choose to sell? thanks - total neophite here.

Webley used a continuous serial number system regardless of the revolver model. The .455 Mk VI started at about 135,000 and went to about 450,000 so clearly this revolver does not show the correct number. The refinishing seriously affects the collector value to the extent that it has no collector value at all. Its value is confined to its shooting ability.
