Trigger reset problem on my AR-15

Hello - Having a problem (I think) with my RRA AR-15 A2, basic model. I've shot it before and I don't recall having this happen, but after disassembling and cleaning it recently, the problem started. When I fire the weapon and release the trigger, the trigger seems to bind and then "click" about halfway before it resets. No misfires or failures to eject, no stuck cases or anything. And the trigger returns fine when I dry fire it. I don't believe this situation is normal, especially since on a few occasions it reset just fine after I fired it. It happened with various brands of factory ammo, so I don't think it's an ammo issue. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Rough finish on the parts. I have a buddy with a RRA AR and the reset is very rough, like it has sand on it. The strange part is it doesn't do it all the time. In fact, he didn't even notice it until I pointed it out to him. He just thought that was how it was supposed to be.

Thanks. Mine doesn't do it all the time either. Any suggestions on what to do? Also - I've been told by some folks that the click I hear and feel halfway before the trigger resets (only happens with live fire, not dry fire) is the disconnector engaging or disengaging. Does this make sense?

A friend's Bushmaster did the same thing last year. He was advised to keep the trigger well lubed, and the problem went away. Also, if the problem started after you disassembled the trigger, I'd go back in and take a careful look at it; sounds like something's amiss. Just my $0.02

It may eventually wear in but do not try to hone it. If it persists, replace the trigger group.

I was in my local gun shop yesterday and happened to mention the problem to a few AR guys. One of them said that the click I feel is the second stage resetting. I actually hadn't thought of that. He said that it being a two-stage trigger, I can actually re-fire as soon as I hear the click, since the trigger has reset. I may try that next time I take it out.

A "basic model" AR does not have a two stage trigger.

Yeah, it does. Look on the RRA web site. The two-stage is their standard trigger, has been for awhile. I have the "Standard A2" model.

Very interesting. That is the first I've heard of a two stage trigger on a standard out of the box model AR. Then all the other discussion on this is for not. Let it wear in.

When I put my RRA match trigger in I had the same problem

The parts appear to be castings and it barely fit in my billet aluminum lower. It did exactly what you describe. I took the trigger and hammer out and dressed the outside edges with a fine file and finished with a stone. It gave it the room it needed to function perfectly after that. The AR system is anything but precise, it is just a bunch of stuff made by a lot of different people that comes together and somehow works. There is plenty of slop and it needs it. The multi lug bolt and barrel extension make it an accurate weapon. The RRA trigger was the single best thing I've ever done to that rifle.
