    I guess it was lucky the mortar wasn't the other way round, fins in first.

    It's possible, if one was holding it in a "peculiar manner", slipped on the stairs, with a heavy landing, before you know where you are you could be in the back of an ambulance, face down, with a mortar bomb sticking out of your posterior.
