    8 Dec 2023 Garand Picture of the Day



    On May 5th, 1945 it became the site of one of the last battles of the war in Europe. With the total surrender of Germanyicon only days away a small group of elderly Frenchicon politicians, newly liberated, found themselves mounting a desperate defense of their former prison against the remnants of Hitler’s fanatical Waffen SS. Assisting them was an American tank crew, a decorated German officer, and a handful of his soldiers. It remains the only battle of WWII where Allied and German forces fought side by side.
