    Winchester Model 62A

This is a little out of my area of expertise and interest, but it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

I'm a remodeling contractor and sometimes I find things where I'm working and conversations get started. I found this maybe six months ago and talked about it with the owners very briefly. He had gotten it from a neighbor many years ago and never did anything with it.

I'm doing some work there again and they asked if I knew anything about it, I didn't, but I got a ballpark figure from Mike and offered my services in this amount in exchange for it. I'm just intrigued that it has the original box, etc. Is in excellent shape although I did notice some stock blemishes after getting it home today, so it isn't mint. That's lint and fuzz on the metal, the metal is probably 100% except on the moving parts where there is some obvious wear.

Still not sure what I'm going to do with it but I'm going to at least hold onto it for now.

Came with maybe ten old boxes of Remington and Winchester ammo. Didn't look closely at that but the one box I did open has the white fuzzy stuff on the lead. So not sure if it's any good or not.

The classic "gallery 22". It's in beautiful shape and a takedown to boot. If it's cramping your style and you want to get rid of it I may be interested.

I rarely sell firearms and usually regret when I do so hard to say on this one. I have traded civilian models for military models on occasion. Biggest trade was a Marlin 444 for an M1icon carbine. I've even traded a few military for other military over the years. I'm going to just sit on it for a while but if I change my mind, I'll let you know.

I just did a search for the oil can in the box and it's a collectible in itself.

Oh I completely understand, I'm the same way. I have everything I've ever bought except for a 22 that fell apart after about a decade of abuse. The 32 round magazines were a mistake for a 22 year old kid.

I was asking sort of tongue in cheek expecting that very response. I'm interested if you ever decide to let it go. BTW I did a serial number search and it said that rifle was made in 1948. To have the box and all paperwork after 77 years is amazing.

Well you hit the jackpot on that one. I'm drooling. Here's a similar one that sold in 2020 on the Rock Island auction site: https://www.rockislandauction.com/de...rifle-with-box
I inherited an 1890 (basically the same rifle) from my Uncle. It functions perfectly. It's one of my favorite rifles.

If memory serves me correct, you can slam fire Model 62's so be sure to release the trigger before closing the action....or not and have some fun.

Just shoot it. It is going to last a very long time.
The ammunition? Oxidization on the lead. Might be good to shoot still. However, it might be of interest to cartridge colletctors.

Congratulations on finding a great little rifle, I love the early Winchester pump .22's and have one of each of the models. Great to find in that condition with the box, instructions and original hang tags. A keeper for sure.

That one's worth a lot of money...complete with original accoutrements. Think long before shooting it unless you don't care...collectors will pay well. Yes, I had one too, and a 61, and a 1906...
    Regards, Jim

That one's beautiful. Still have mine, a 1952. No box and such, but that makes it a shooter. Big fun.
