M. H. bullet dimensions
Not keen to rip open my ONE original .577-.450 cartridge tofind out.
Has anybody ever seen an "official tech drawing of this bullet..
I suspect it has a long taper and this is probably related to he long, tapered "free-bore" in the barrels. The only way to accurately measure the barrel interior is to unscrew it from the body.
Lots of folk recommend various "modern" cast bullets with grease grooves, etc. Does a paper-patched bullet need grease grooves and how would the paper and "grease" / wax interact?.
Also, as near as I have found out, the original rolled brass-foil cartridge bodies were filled with powder, wad and patched bullet, BEFORE the neck was "rolled" / sized down against the bullet.
Try stuffing a tapered?, paper-patched bullet into slightly undersized rolled brass neck. MESSY.
