A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. One of the fields I work in is film and television audio. There's a saying in the biz: "You can never have too much footage." You edit up a piece at the requested length of three minutes and take it to be approved by the senior producer, who suddenly says, "Oooo... That's a great story. I'd like you to expand on it, please." So, you always shoot extra footage.

The red manual that you see on the table, as I'm being interviewed on the Antiques Roadshow, is a Manual of Map Reading and Field Sketching 1912 (Reprint 1914). As you can see from the cover - it was originally used at the First Army School of Scouting, Observation and Sniping. It was used by Major Underhill at Hesketh Prichard's school. When Harry attended a sniping course at Llanberis in Snowdonia in April 1944, Major Underhill was instructing there. He was impressed by Harry's skills and soon learnt that Harry idolised Hesketh Prichard. He gave Harry the manual when he finished the course. Harry gave it to me in 2014. It is one of those manuals that oozes sniping history from both World Wars. I ended up selling most of Harry's collection of books in order to raise money for his Great Grandaughter's future education.

its amazing what price you can pick up these old (unwanted) books and pamphlets for - I recently bought the same for GBP £8.
£8 for a 110 year old book full of information even includes those "pesky foreign measurements"

Mine was owned by the sellers Grandfather who was in the Notts & Derby Rifle Regiment of the Sherwood Foresters in WW1.

Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...
