phil441,
I visited a friend in Austin two years ago. Have you been to Fredericksburg? It's up north of you. There is a real nice War Museum there. It took me over 4hours to go through it. One display has a Carbine. Worth the time, cost is low. Also there is a tribute to Admiral Nimitz born there.
Nice place to visit, wish I hadn't done it in August. HOT and HUMID.

Phil, did you explain that not carrying .30 Carbine is considered sacrilege? Next they will be removing the stickers for .45 ACP!!!!!

Jim, actually I have been to Fredericksburg, a coupla hundred miles south of here, but I was with a motorcycle group which was concentrating on eating and drinking from one end of town to the other.
Good food and drink, but didn't get much sightseeing done. I rode by the Nimitz museum and swore that next time I visited, I'd spend some time there.... I haven't been back since... but someday........
And yes, August can be brutal in the Hill Country.

Ed, I did mention to the Ammo mgrs that they probably had a customer base out here. They had no idea what .30 Cal Carbine was for.
I got nice smiles below totally blank looks.
I think this store is a write-off.

I was at Bass Pro Shops in Maryland a few days ago and they had a few boxes of Remington 30 Cal Carbine ammo. The price was around $24/50 rounds.

Saw a box of 25-20, 50 rounds, marked at $69.99. This was at a retail shop that was NOT gouging, AFAIK.

I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area (yes Calif) and it is possible to find .38 Special, 9mm or .30 Carbine at any store. At the last local gun show, vendors had canceled for lack of ammo to sell. Local reloaders cannot find a supply ob bullets or primers. Wonder when this problem will resolve????

Steel cases detrimental in .30 Carbines??
[QUOTE= ...they had about 10 boxes of Wolf in stock for $17.99 a box. Of course I didn't buy them because I respect my weapons too much to break an extractor... [/QUOTE]
Didn't the U.S. military make some steel-cased carbine ammo in WW2? HAVE there been reports of broken extractors with Wolf? I have run maybe 500 rds through my .45's within the past 2-3 years; no problems. Tried the steel Wolf '06 in an '03 and THAT was a bad deal; had to hammer the bolt open with the heel of my hand...
