I bought some of that camo in 1973 at a surplus store in Cheyenne. Oddly enough, it worked just fine Wyoming summers....all three weeks of it.

Camo may be early but the M1 Carbine is as late as they come
Is that John Wayne I see with the Carbine ?.Alligators and all that gear down on the beach are cool though... JR

No. I was told that it was a photo taken while Marines were coming ashore in an active fire area.
I also found out that the Marines dropped that type of camo in WWll as it lokked too much like the German
's Camo...

If that was an active fire area then the photographer must have been expendable.
If Marines dropped that kind of camo because it looked German; where in the Pacific Theater was that likely to have been a problem?

Where was this taken and when? I notice that the carbine has the late type band for the bayonet lug, this did not come on line till around November 1944.

It looks like John Wayne to me. Did you notice that it appears that none of the Marines in the background are wearing the camo? Did I see that or am I wrong?

It would be interesting to know the date. The Garand
has the early gas plug screw and leather sling. Late in the war in the Pacific the carbine with the bayo lug could be possible, though the picture of the two up close Marines at least, appears to be staged.
