Carbines in the pacific with Marines
I came across this photo while researching some Marine uniform information and thopught it might be intersting to folks. . I hope it came okay....I may rescan it to get a little bigger for detail. It was taken (from the caption) on Camp Maui, Hawaii early 1945 just before these Marine officers from 23 Marines 4th Division, shipped out for Iwo Jima. Most are named in the phot as well. This shows them equiped with carbines with bayonet lugs clearly shown on a couple.

...Okay I redid it to see if we get better detail...that's a little better

a second photo......
Another photo of 23 Marines Rgt. officers in the same book. Guys in the fron and back left clearly show bayonet lugs on their carbines. This looks to be another photo of the same officers. Text also dates it just before shipping out to begin Iwo Jima. It would probably seem logical to assume that if they have bayonet lugs they also have the adjustable sights. And just an extra photo in the same book is this Para Marine with a folding stock carbine...

It's interesting to see an M1A1
and a K-Bar together in the same photo. Very cool.

Does it look like that M1A1
has adjustable rear sights?

That rear sight looks too big for a flip sight. The tip on the sling also looks like a D clip.

scared to death, I'm glad it is not in color, as the song goes.
