That's not a real gun. That's just an add for Popsicle Pete's Garand

if by "inner party members" you mean the GCA
Polit Bureau, aka the party intelligentsia - then, yes I'm fine with it ...
after all, they've always been there for us,,,, and by 'there' I mean - Anniston -
Lord knows how many special trips they made there for us on their behalf ...
But they're the ones who do all the heavy lifting and they're the keepers of the secrets and they let us know 'what's what' (when it finally suits them).
so sure, let them have their little private party,,, why not?
...... we'll be able to read about it soon enough*

Tim, I do have to resent that some "party leaders" will have the pleasure of skimming the cream off cartons of brand new Carbines, undiscovered Collector and Correct Grade rifles and perhaps seeing the, and I quote, "new, unissued and complete M1D rifles" that CMP
has on hand. They put one out to sell at the South store, but I think a citizen may have gotten it, as there were no more when employees were asked. Guess some more will be "discovered" next September as the cartons are opened.
I had one guy brag to me that he personally carried off "as new" items (his words, not mine) when he used to "volunteer" was CMP South, apparently at bargain basement prices. And, the North Store had to let it's volunteers go several years ago when they were pulling valuable parts off rifles and selling them on the open market.

I volunteered at Anniston the last year that they allowed folks to do so. I had the armorers pick out a rack grade for me-That was it. I also took over 400 barrels off of receivers and worked on incredibly grease Greek '03's. I think that lots of these tales are like fishing stories-they get larger and larger over time. If you have even met Mr. Michaels, you would know that he wouldn't allow things like that to go on.

Oh well... I guess I didn't make the cut. I'll just have to cancel my hotel reservation and find something else to do that weekend. Knob Creek... isn't that the same weekend as the GCA
convention???

Isn't there supposed to be an annual meeting of the members of the GCA
? I thought the annual Convention served that purpose. But with a limitation of only 200 members being able to attend the Convention this year, I guess it can't be considered the annual meeting. Anyone know for sure?

The GCA
and CMP
are fine organizations and both are run on the up and up. I am a member and buyer from the them. I am always amazed at the bitter individuals who always seek out an issue to complain about. They assume the worst intentions by both organizations, and individuals for that matter. A little introspection on the part of the complainers is long over due.
Why the cynicism and animosity toward your fellows in the firearm community? You only make yourself unhappy with this attitude.
Oh, and by the way I made the cut for the convention and can't afford any buying of rifles or ammo. I will enjoy the fellowship and fun of helping out the CMP. I know that many of the lucky ones are in the same boat I am.

well, as for seeking out these issues; nothing could be further from the truth.
in fact, they just fall into our lap.

I am thinking shooterm1 is correct. A private party for the GCA
politburo bureau is not on the up and up.
Just wish I could believe that those rifles saved for this event would have been offered in the stores for the rest of us peoasants to look at and buy. But, I fear they won't ever be seen again as those will disappear into someone's collection.
Would have liked a new, unissued M1D. I wonder if there are 200 of those available in Anniston.
