Little known fact that some of the Okinawan women disliked the Japaneseicon there on the island. A number of them had their faces tatooed so that the Japanese soldiers would leave them alone. The soldiers did not like the face to be disfigured.

When I was there (1967-69) some of these women were still alive and could be seen working in the fields. No Social Security retirement there!


Lastly, with the addition of the American diet, many of the Okinawans have gotten much taller. Both the men and women. However, we still tower over most of them.
