    Win Stock Help

I have a Winchester stock that has a hair line crack in the high wood area as shown in the red circle. The crack does not extend all the way through the wood except for a couple inches where the wood comes flush with top of the stock. I have no pic of the sling well but I'm absolutely certain there is NO W stamped in it. I want to sell it at a gun show soon and want to know what a fair asking price would be.

If you can pull dental floss thru the crack....pull it from the inside towards the outside, while applying super glue to the floss on the inside. Quickly wipe off any extra from the outside and clamp. Real light fishing line works well also.

A I cut hi-wood that's well marked like yours brings a premium. Worth more than you'd think. I've seen nice examples in worst shape sell for over $500 to one who's looking. It's not like their making any more. Might be regional but stocks are high $$ here in Michigan.

    Scott,
I took a beater stock split in 2 and used a medium fast setting 2 part clear epoxy on it. When cured I beat it on the patio to break it in half......it broke, but in a different area. That epoxy is stronger than the wood's weak points. Did the same repair to a Hi-wood QHMC and have shot well over 1000 rds thru it.
As long as the buyer is aware of it, he has the option of running a brass pin or two in it. Personally I've had better luck with the epoxy.

Chances if breaking if shot... Boy I wish I knew.. What I do know is the old boy that had the carbine had run a couple of boxes of WWII GI ammo through it about 20 or so years ago..He got the carbine just after the war ended. I can see a slight amount of wear on the op rod where it was in contact with the wood but you can't really see any corresponding mark in the wood that really jumps out at you. The carbine is an SG in the 34655xx s/n range with most of the parts correct for SG and the ones that aren't SG match up to correct lateral support codes for the time frame. The thing is in hardly used condition, but as to why it is in a Winchester stock set is a mystery to me.
