BTW, FYI, the Italians never inserted a steel sleeve to convert to 7.62 NATO...the U.S.Navy did! Beretta took the 30-06 barrels, cut the threads off, remachined the threads and breech and rechambered for NATO. Shortened up the op-rod and rear hand guard...Viola', That's why the Italian NATO Garands are 1/2" shorter than the standard M1.
