M1 won't pick up next round..............
I found a real weired M1 I was working on for a VFW. I had the blank adaptor on the gun, and was firing blanks. I tried everything. It wouldn't pick up the next round after I fired it. To make a long story short the front handguard was sanded at the rear about 1/16th short. When you put it on and then put it all together the hole in the barrel did not match up with the hole in the gas cylinder. This one cost me alittle time. I hope this helps someone else. Rog

VFW rifle? It is Army property. Try returning it to its owner, the US Army. They should replace it with a runner.

Round pick up
The hole in the barrel(gas port) is covered by the gas cyl. The wood has nothing to do with it unless it is to long and won't let the gas cyl move enough to clear the gas port. You can adjust the opening by moving the gas cyl fwr or aft and locked in place by the BFA and the cyl lock screw. There should be movement in the front hand guard so it can expand when the barrel get hot. It could be various reasons for not picking up the next rd. The BFA has the wrong size hole in the end or could be dirty. The gas cyl is covering to much of the gas port hole, weak op rod spring. It could be other things but I would check these items first. I think you must miss understand me............
the gas cylinder has as slot in it and it must line up with the hole in the barrel. If the ridge on the front hand guard is short, this makes the gas cylinder go down to far and the notch in the gas cylinder falls under the hole in the barrel restricking the gas flow into the gas cylinder. The ridge on the front hand guard I am taking about goes into the lower band. Rog

????
The gas cyl. lock screws on to the bbl till it bottoms , then unscrew till the plug lines up. The gas cyl plug will then pull the gas cyl forward until it hits the rear of the gas cyl lock. This positions the port in the slot , not the foreend. Does the BFA work differently? Chris
