LW Type 4 stock ?

Am I correct to assume this to be a Type 4 stock? Type 3 stock with 4.15" barrel channel, M2 cut, LW in sling well. I thought Type 4 were only Inland and Winchester. LW Type 3 war time replacements.

It's a type 3 made by Lumb Woodworking Co as a war time replacement later modifed for the M2 parts. I would think that there would be a rebuild stamp on it somewhere unless it was removed later.

Thanks Bruce;The only other mark I can find, looks like a large flaming bomb on top of the W in sling well. I've looked the stock over with a magnifyed light. This stock is perfect, dusty, and no dings or cracks.The M2 mill work looks the same as the rest so it must have been done long ago.

A week ago Saturday at a yard sale I was shown an IBM "lunchbox" carbine. No markings on the heel, no marking on the BBL. but all IBM parts inside. It was from an estate of an engineer that worked at IBM Poughkeepsie. The stock on it is exactly like you describe. "LW" with flaming bomb. The stock is mint, unsanded, on dings or use, no rebuild marks, yet it has the M2 cut outs. I wonder if Lumb did in fact make them? Well the carbine was not for sale, but I did get an empty carboard box from the group that is marked "carbine Cal .30 M1 Handguards, QTY 25, (an ord. bomb mark) Lumb Woodworking Co. Inc." I'll post a picture in the near future.

Lumb did make stocks for IBM. If it is an IBM stock then it would be marked LW-B in the sling well. Sometimes the B is hard to see. If it's just LW then it's a replacement stock.

Here is a picture of a bleached out LW-B marked stock.
It is damaged on the hi-wood rail. A Type II...or was, repairable but will be time consuming.
It has just a remnant of the CC left.

I have LW-B and LW in my collection, and I know LW is a built for replacement. My question is: Did Lumb made a M2 or type IV stock, as the one at the beginning of the thread and the one I observed looks unissued. Common thought is that they didn't. Just wondering if it was possible. I personally worked with and know, the original owner's Son, and he had no information on this other than he used to burn left over BAR forends as kindling in his woodstove. He said that his Dad's shop did make BAR forends as well as carbine Stocks and handguards. Thanks.
