Mannequins
Does anyone have a source for mannequins in the Calgary area?
I'm not huge into uniforms, but I've got some stuff I would like to put together for some photos. I've seen some mannequin type of things that were just wire type bodies, and those would be fine.
And I was hoping not to spend a whole lot O money on them, if possible.

A real mannequin will cost a ton of money to buy. Know anybody who works in or manages a clothing shop? You might be able to use one or two for taking pictures, if you ask nicely in any clothing shop.
Failing that enlist some of your buddies to pose for you. Mind you, most uniforms are made for skinny 18 year olds.

I'd be interested in the same in Winnipeg. Not the whole mannequin just a torso and head for a helmet and jacket display.

A full body department store mannequin will last many years, and the stores don't give them away. You'll probably be ahead faster to build something on your own with plywood, dimension lumber and imagination.

Yes, I'm thinking building something out of a wooden coat hanger with padding on the shoulders then a table stand with cardboard to fill out the chest and back of the jacket and cardboard tubes down the arm. I'll use appropriate coloured leather gloves for hands and just stuff the fingers, etc and fasten it to the cardboard ends.
For the head you can buy one of those foam heads at a flea market or something and stick it on the top of the hanger. Not perfect but should work.

Here's a good idea. What about a couple of those blow-up dolls? Surely there must be male examples made for 'needy' females (or even needy men come to think of it!). You can get the cheap version without real hair. You could use some camouflage cream to enhance the plastic features and usual pouting lips.

There ought to be a store that sells USED retail fixtures and the like near any large city. Also, the thrift stores may have some flogged out or partial mannequins that you could get for not so much money. What with all the store closings there ought to be a surplus of these things lurking about, just poke about and see who deals in used display cases and office furniture.
