Charlie,
I just located a few photos of the IBM I had if this is any help. I don't have a photo showing the proof though.
Mine had the milled cut and the SN was 3901426 with an AO reciever.

Thanks Harlan...
After getting the spotters report from sk1ski and seeing the pictures that Brian posted showing the no date IBM barrels with the plain P stamp. I can only assume that either a serif or san serif P could be correct. Maybe IBM did use 2 different style P proof stamps. Wondering now if it was possible that their barrels might have been proof stamped in 2 different locations. (?)
Don't really have a choice since 1 of the 3 barrels is a Blue Sky with the Serif P. I plan to use the nicer of the other 2 and both are No date with the plain P stamp. Will swap it out as soon as I can lift and tug on the receiver wrench.
Thanks to all for the help,
Charlie

OK Guys,
Please excuse a stupid question from the clueless one,
but what was the purpose of the hack saw cut?
Thanks,
Phil

Thanks Bill.
That's the only thing I could come with. I had noticed that the "bridge" on some of the cuts seemed to be slightly deformed. I wonder if it was done to make up for a manufacturing tolerance problem with the diameter of some barrels. I've often wondered why more mfgr's didn't do that if it worked so well.

Not sure if you are still trying to figure this out. I'm pretty sure mine is a non-serifed P, not sure about the hack saw cut. Doesn't really look like there is one, so here is a pic, 3.89 series, all original.
